Coalition for the Homeless

Coalition for the Homeless

The Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) believes housing is a basic right in a just society. To that end, CCH is organized to create, research, and implement programs to reverse the severe decline in affordable housing, to create jobs that pay a living wage, and to end homelessness in Metropolitan Chicago. CCH focuses on the root causes of the problem, including a serious shortage of affordable housing, the increasing scarcity of living wage jobs, and a lack of health and supportive services for the poor. Through this work, many homeless people have become empowered and transformed by standing up and fighting for themselves. Furthermore, CCH trains and develops homeless people as leaders, giving them the tools they need to participate in a democracy that routinely shuts them out. Some initiatives of CCH are the Law Project, the Women's Empowerment Project, the Latino Task Force, the Youth Empowerment Project, and the Youth Committee, all which empower people who homeless to organize themselves and affect positive change in their lives and in the community.
