Justice Can Be So Delicious

The Catholic Review of Baltimore, Maryland recently ran an article about a 16 year-old girl who organized her fourth sale Fair Trade coffee and chocolate last month. Maria Louzon, a member of Church of the Resurrection, learned about Fair Trade at a youth retreat two years ago. At the retreat, she discovered that simple actions on the part of an individual can make a big impact on the lives of other individuals half a world away.

Fasting: Young People Heed the Call of the Season

Several years ago, when I was in high school, I was invited by my aunt Mary to participate in a 30-hour fast. The event had a significant impact on me, and since then I have participated in at least one fast a year. Mary, a youth minister at The Church of Saint Paul in Ham Lake, MN, has planned and organized many similar fasts for young people throughout the years of her ministry. In addition to her work, these events also feature a great deal of leadership by the young people who organize, promote, help lead, and participate in the fasts.

Issues of peace and faith affect they lives of people in every country. Every day the headlines tell about war, conflict, terrorism and other events that endanger peace. Fortunately, there's also a lot of good news about the ways people across the globe are working to create peace and live meaningful, faith-filled lives.
