November: Advent, the Season of Peace

Can it be that the end of the year is upon us? Wasn't it summer just yesterday? Already we're bundled up in heavy coats and sweaters, preparing for the cold winds of winter, the last leaves to drop, the earth to hibernate. Can this truly be the end?

Our faith reminds us, however, that there is no end with Christ. In fact, what our calendar says is the end, is also the time of Advent, the beginning. We start a period of waiting, anticipating the birth of Christ. We are called as Christians to reflect upon the profound impact of Christ's coming, and how we must respond--day after day, year after year--to our call to be beacon's of Christ's light. Jesus was the start of something, which we must live in the present, as we prepare for the future, forever with Christ.

Now is a time, too, to remember the prophets of peace, who understood this call. Think of John the Baptist, who foretold the coming of Christ. What do men and women of today and yesterday have to say about peace? What do they teach us about our call to be Peacebuilders?

Learn, reflect, prepare, and open your hearts. Happy Advent.
