For a group of 5 to 25 people. If more, break into groups of 10 or so.
At the end of the season of Easter, we celebrate Pentecost, the day when the Holy Spirit came down upon the followers of Jesus and the church (this one that we belong to) was born.
Umm, there's one problem, though. How do you know that the Spirit has come when you cannot see or touch, taste or smell or hear the Holy Spirit?
There are 12 fruits of the Holy Spirit, attitudes and ways of acting that reveal the Spirit's hidden life among us. These are:
- LOVE
- JOY
- PEACE
- PATIENCE
- KINDNESS
- GOODNESS
- GENEROSITY
- GENTLENESS
- FAITHFULNESS
- MODESTY
- SELF-CONTROL
- CHASTITY
And once you know that you've caught the Spirit, you receive seven gifts that help you live in the world, do good to others, and build peace. The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are:
- WISDOM
- UNDERSTANDING
- COUNSEL
- FORTITUDE
- KNOWLEDGE
- PIETY
- AWE AT WHO GOD IS AND WHAT GOD DOES
Ask yourself: Which of these fruits of the Holy Spirit do I have in my life? Which would I like more of? Pray this prayer:
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful!
Kindle in us the fire of your love!
